Snapchat has announced an update to its app to allow users to search across Stories. This update is currently rolling out across cities, providing users a new way to “understand what’s happening in Snaps that are submitted to Our Story, and to create new Stories using advanced machine learning.”

“We’ve built a new way to understand what’s happening in Snaps that are submitted to Our Story, and to create new Stories using advanced machine learning. Over 1 million unique Stories can be searched on Snapchat, offering users plenty of content to check out."

The feature is going live today in selected U.S. cities and seems only to search through “Our Stories,” which are Stories that have been created by Snapchat based on user contributions. Users can now search for Stories based on keywords, like games, concerts, parties, tutorials, and many more. Before Snapchat introduced this new feature, users could only see stories shared by their friends or those that were posted directly by Snap.

Snapchat will be using a number of markers — including caption text, time of day, and the images in the snaps — to determine which story, if any, it fits.
